La Canasta by BEHER in Seville: A Generous Table

“Caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.” — Antonio Machado

Seville rewards the traveller who walks without rushing. This meal at La Canasta by BEHER felt built the same way: not around one theatrical plate, but through bread, eggs, ham, tomato and a final glass of orange juice.

An empanada arrived with a tomato-based tuna filling sharpened by pepper. The tartness was noticeable but balanced, giving it a lively rather than heavy character.

The huevos rotos paired crisp-edged potatoes and eggs with Iberian ham. The ham was flavourful without becoming overly salty, a meaningful distinction in a dish where cured meat can easily dominate everything beneath it.

Bread arrived crisp and substantial. The tomate natural was especially sweet and fresh, bringing brightness against the richer eggs and ham. Freshly squeezed orange juice was the best way to close the meal: cold, naturally sweet and exactly right after the savoury plates.

Nothing I tried was disappointing. The empanada brought tartness, the huevos rotos provided warmth and substance, the Iberian ham added depth, and the juice finished the route with clean sweetness. This was not a destination defined by spectacle, but a comfortable stop assembled through ordinary pleasures.

What to order

  • Broken eggs with ham shavings, especially for the Iberian ham.
  • The tomato-and-tuna empanada.
  • Freshly squeezed orange juice as a light dessert.

What to skip

Nothing from this visit earned a definite skip.

Verdict

A reliable, generous Seville meal where the savoury plates are balanced and the simplest ending—fresh orange juice—may be the smartest order.
