“So as to know my place / Upon my return.” — Federico García Lorca
A good food stop gives you a reason to remember exactly where you were. At Luisitas Empanadas, the marker I would follow back is the spicy beef empanada.
Its seasoning reminded me of a Jamaican patty: warm, direct and distinctive enough to stand apart from the rest. This is the order that justifies the stop. My conclusion was simple: skip some of the other flavours if you need to, but do not skip Luisitas altogether, because this spicy beef empanada is worth seeking out.

A spinach-and-ricotta filling brought a different experience. It was generous, and the ricotta did not overwhelm the greens. The crust had a good texture, though the filling also carried a slightly bitter, sappy note.
The mushroom-and-truffle version was the clear skip. It did not leave enough of a positive impression to compete with the spicy beef.
Vegetarian choices are available, giving a mixed group more options. Based on flavour during this visit, however, I would focus on the beef versions and especially the spicy one. The point is not to sample indiscriminately. It is to choose the filling with the clearest personality.

What to order
- The spicy beef empanada—the must-have.
- Classic beef if you prefer less heat.
What to skip
The mushroom-and-truffle empanada, which did not earn a repeat order.
Verdict
Do not skip Luisitas—but order strategically. The spicy beef empanada is the reason to go, while the mushroom version did not earn a repeat order.
