Quick take
We arrived at Basil Filinvest expecting a satisfying Thai meal, but the visit fell short on too many basic points: much of our original order was unavailable, the dishes we received were inconsistently executed, the protein portions felt limited for the price, and the table and seating area were not adequately clean when we arrived.
There were moments when the intended Thai flavour profile came through, but they were not enough to offset the poor value and disappointing overall experience. Based on this visit, I would not choose Basil Filinvest again.
A menu limited by availability
The restaurant was busy that weekend, and availability immediately became a problem. Nearly our entire original order could not be fulfilled, including the Bagoong Rice, Duck Curry, and Chicken Pandan. Restaurants can run out of menu items during peak periods, but losing most of a planned order changes the experience considerably—especially when the alternatives do not deliver.
For a restaurant at this price point, availability should be paired with useful guidance from the service team: which dishes remain available, what offers a comparable experience, and what is likely to suit the table. That did not come through strongly during our meal.
Dishes that did not justify the price
The Thai Beef Ribs were the clearest disappointment. The portion was small—about four pieces, or roughly 10 ounces—and the meat was both very salty and difficult to eat because of its toughness. To our table, the flavour and texture seemed closer to goat meat than beef. Whatever the intended preparation, it was not enjoyable and is not a dish I would order again.
